Mahaperiyava got Ready to do Saraswati Pooja! :)))

Not sure when this was written, so I will say approximately 40 years back in Kanchi Matam on Saraswati Pooja day…

As usual, Kanchi Mahaperiyava completed the Chandramouliswara pooja and got ready to do the Saraswati pooja. One Vaideekar Purohit Mama was sitting near Him and was reciting the pooja mantras from a book.

He recited Sankalpam, Aavahanam, Prana Prathista, Anga Pooja and started to recite Saraswati Ashtothram. At the end of each Namaha Swamigal was offering Her a flower.

Then the Vaideekar came to this Line and read:

“Om Brahma Jayayai namaha!”

The flower in the Hands of Swamigal did not reach Saraswati’s Lotus Feet, it remained stranded in His hands, about to be delivered!

The Vaideekar kept on reciting the same Om Brahma Jayayai namaha and Swamigal was present like a Statue, with His Hands raised and the Flower in His hand!

Everyone around got worried as to what was wrong! Why did not Swamigal offer that Flower to Her!

The news reached the Matam Manager Shri Viswanathan and he rushed to the pooja spot. He asked the Vaideekar to repeat that line and the Vaideekar promptly said the same: “Om Brahma Jayayai Namaha!”

The Flower was still in Swamigal’s hands.

Fortunately there was a Sanskrit Pandit nearby. He corrected it and asked the Vaideekar to recite it as:

“Om Brahma Jaayayai Namaha!”

And atlast, Now the flower in Swamigal’s hands took flight to Saraswati’s Lotus Feet! :)))

Here are the meanings of those phrases:

Correct one — “Om Brahma ‘Jaayayai’ Namaha!” — Salutations to Her who is the Consort of Lord Brahma!

Wrong one — “Om Brahma Jayayai Namaha!” — Salutations to Her who was Victorious over Lord Brahma!

 

முப்பத்தைந்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன், நவராத்திரி நிறைவில் ஸ்ரீ சரஸ்வதி பூஜை தினம்.

மகாப் பெரியவாள், வழக்கமான ஸ்ரீ சந்த்ரமௌலீஸ்வரர் பூஜையை முடித்தபின்,தனியாக சரஸ்வதி பூஜை செய்ய ஆரம்பித்திருந்தார்கள்.

ஒரு வைதிகர், பூஜா கல்ப புஸ்தகத்தைக் கையில் வைத்துக்கொண்டு படித்துக்கொண்டு வந்தார்.

வரிசையாக சங்கல்பம் – ஆவாஹனம் – பிராணப்பிரதிஷ்டை – அங்கபூஜை முடிந்து, சரஸ்வதி அஷ்டோத்திரம் சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்தார்.

ஒவ்வொரு ‘நம;’வுக்கும், ஒவ்வொரு புஷ்பத்தை எடுத்து அருச்சித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள் பெரியவா.

‘ஓம் ப்ரஹ்ம ஜயாயை நம:’ என்று வைதிகர் படித்தார்.

மகாஸ்வாமிகள் கையில் எடுத்த புஷ்பம் சரஸ்வதியின் சரணங்களை அடையாமல் அப்படியே சுவாமிகளின் கையில் அந்தரத்தில் நின்றது.

அஷ்டோத்திரம் சொல்லிக் கொண்டிருந்தவர்  மறுபடியும், ‘ஓம் ப்ரஹ்ம ஜயாயை நம:’ என்றார்.

புஷ்பம் கையிலிருந்து புறப்படவில்லை.

திரும்பத் திரும்ப, அந்த நாமவளியை அவ்வாறே அவர் சொல்ல, பெரியவா, புஷ்பத்துடன் உயரத் தூக்கிய கையுடன், சித்திரம் போல், அசையாமல் நிற்க…எல்லோருக்கும் கவலை உண்டாகிவிட்டது. “என்ன தவறு நடந்துவிட்டது, இங்கே?” என்று புரியாமல் தத்தளித்தார்கள்.

விஷயம் பெரிய மானேஜர் விசுவநாத அய்யர் விவரை போய்விட்டது. அவர் பூஜை மண்டபத்துக்கு வந்தார்.

“மறுபடியும் படியுங்கோ…”

வைதிகர், மறுபடியும், ‘ஓம் ப்ரஹ்ம ஜயாயை நம:’ என்று சொல்ல, புஷ்பம் பெரியவா விரல் நுனியிலேயே நிற்க…..

நல்ல காலமாக பக்கத்திலிருந்த வேறொரு வித்வான், ‘ஓம் ப்ரஹ்ம ஜாயாயை நம:’ன்று திருத்திச் சொன்னவுடன் பெரியவா கையிலிருந்த புஷ்பம் கலைமகளின் திருவடியை அடைந்தது!

இந்த இரண்டு நாமங்களில் அப்படி என்ன பெரிய வித்தியாசம் என்று தோன்றலாம்.

ப்ரஹ்ம ஜயாயை நம: என்றால், பிரம்மாவை ஜயித்தவளுக்கு நமஸ்காரம் என்று அர்த்தம்.

ப்ரஹ்ம ஜாயாயை நம: என்று,ஒரு ‘கால்’ போட்டுச் சொன்னால், பிரம்மாவின் பத்னிக்கு நமஸ்காரம் என்று பொருள்.

பெரியவா இயந்திர கதியில் பூஜைகளைச் செய்வதில்லை என்பதற்கு இது ஒரு நிதர்சனமான உதாரணம். முழுமனத்தையும் பூஜையில் செலுத்தி, பொருள் உணர்ந்து பூஜை செய்கிறார்கள் என்பதற்குச் சான்று.

ப்ரஹ்ம ஜயாவோ, ஜாயாவோ – எப்படியோ இருந்து விட்டுப் போகட்டும்.

ஆனால் பெரியவாளை, “ஓம் சரஸ்வதீஜயாய நம” என்று நாம் சரணாகதி பண்ணிவிட்டால் வித்தைகள் எல்லாம் வரும்தானே?
