We were all shocked when the erudite Shri Nannilam Rajagopala Ganapatigal passed away recently due to a sudden cardiac arrest. What a loss, especially of precious knowledge that could have been transferred to more people, it is to us. Shankara. Also, Salem Ravi Mama’s son passed away just in his 20s due to heart attack,
The kind hearted Shanta Sankaran immediately reached out to me, wanting to know how we can help such Vaideekas (Veda Patashala teachers and a few students who may have obsesity/sugar problems in their young age). This can be prevented to some extent by measuring their risk for heart disease – by checking cholesterol/sugar levels, BP blood pressure etc and ensuring that such factors are kept in control.
Shanta adds, Indians, especially those in South India are very prone to metabolic syndrome genetically. This is why you will find slim family members who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes high cholesterol, blocked arteries etc. Due to our genetic qualities we are prone for such diseases even though we are not obese, drink or smoke. Controlling the situation by diet and exercise is close to impossible as well. Given this is the situation, there is a need to check these things from a much younger age (30 or so) and treat them before things get out of hand and the arteries need a stent.
Shanta says she can request her doctor husband Shri Shankar to volunteer to help in such an effort.
Are there any doctors out there who can volunteer to do this along with Shri Shankar, by devoting their precious time? A doctor can adopt 3 or 4 Veda Patashalas and do regular checkups there. The number of teachers at a Veda Patashala is very less, just 1 or 2 or 3, so it will not take much time to do a checkup.
Interested doctors, please do leave a comment below here, or send me an email at email@example.com
4 doctors have reached out to me and they all are on a new ‘Doctors for Patashalas’ whatsapp group to share medical advice!
We should also do a similar thing for the Gomathas cows in the Goshalas. So, veterinary doctors also please reach out!
Thanks to Shri Ramaswami Subramony for these beautiful pictures from Melmangalam Veda Patashala.
A request to all the readers, please share this post with all your doctors, friends and to all the Veda Patashala teachers/administrators.
A very happy new year to everyone.
