Deepavali Treat for Veda Patashalas, Goshalas and Old Age Homes!

The noble volunteers of Brahmana Sabha organization prepared and distributed Deepavali bakshanams (sweets and savouries) for Veda Patashalas, Old Age homes and Temples last week in October 2019. The below update is from the team.
The bakshanams were made and packed at Sankaralayam, Madras on 17th, 18th and 19th of October. The deepawali lehiyam (also called marundhu in Tamil, that delicious medicinal item prepared only on Deepavali) preparation started a week before and was completed on the 17th at Sankaralayam. Samarpanam of the first batch was done at the adhishtanams of our Acharyas in Kanchi:

Bakshanam and Lehiyam was delivered to 42 Veda Patashalas, Sampradaya schools and integrated patashalas, and 6 Vriddashramams.

About 1350 kgs of bakshanam and 125 kgs was prepared, packed and distributed by 70+ volunteers. Also, deepawali lehiyam was distributed to vaideekas around Madras.

Bakshanams to Sri Mutt camp:

… to some of the youngest in heart volunteers like Mala mami, Meena mami etc. who are role models for us:

At Aathur Athur Patasala Goshala were the below 3 pictures taken:

We encourage volunteers to go with their families. As you can see here, the children had a blast at the Goshala in the Aathur patasala.

Every Patashala we spoke to said the same thing. “The children have left their families and come here to learn the Vedas. It makes their day when they get visitors.”

Please make it a point to visit any of the Patasalas at least once a year with your family. Some of the adhyapakas also conveyed their disappointment about people giving to patasalas only on birthdays, srardham days, etc. To quote them, “These children are not orphans and the Veda Patashalas are not orphanages”. Please talk to your friends and family to raise awareness and visit the Patashalas at regular intervals, throughout the year.

His Holiness Shankara Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal Bala Periyava had also requested us to share the list of the patasalas, vriddashramams, their contact numbers, as well as bank transfer details to the general public. We have collated the information and will share the same soon.

In addition to the Deepawali bakshanam to Patasalas, we were instructed by His Holiness to provide bakshanam to 150 Siva temples in Kanchipuram starting this year. This service has been going for many decades as instructed by Sri Maha Periyava and Sri Jayendra Periyava.

Beginning this year, we provided the bakshanam for 150 temples, half kg oil, puja materials for each of the 150 temples. All the materials were organised and assembled in front of the Adhistanams and handed over to the Sivacharyas. We are in the process of collating the details of the 150 Siva temples, geo locations, priest contacts, local transport etc. Again, you can plan to visit the Siva temples in and around Kanchipuram the next time you are here.

Please see more pictures in this album:

The team can be contacted at the below details:

Shankara, how beautiful to read this and how lovely are the pictures! So, let us resolve to visit the Veda Patashalas, Goshalas etc at regular intervals, throughout the year.

A beautiful day to Everyone.

  1. A very noble work carried out by the Brahamana Sabha by preparing and distributing 1,350 Kgs of Pakshanam and 125 Kgs of Lehiyam to 42 VedaPatasalas & 6 Vriddashramams & Vaideekals on the occasion of the Deepavali festival. Kindly furnish the details of the 42 Vedapatasalas and the 6 Vriddashramams to enable us to contribute and make a visit . I would also like to contribute for this year’s Deepavali Pakshanam , if it is n’t very late . We must felicitate all the 70 + volunteers who were engaged in this job .
